154 Hours in Pilmur

Last Saturday I packed up my black and white art materials and headed for the hills - well Scotland to be a little more precise, just outside Aviemore.  It is a beautiful spot that we have visited a couple of times before, but this time I planned on making a new body of work over a 154 hour period to form part of the 154 Exhibition.

So far I have made a good start on nine A1 mixed media works, all mono-chrome and all lots of fun. I am working with posca pens, acrylic paint, water soluble graphite, pen and ink, acrylic spray paint and heavy duty stock. I have also started a few pieces on the iPad which I have worked on at night after the light has deserted me...... In line with how many of my recent works have developed, I have no preparatory sketches for these works, the images, marks and patterns grow out of the act of painting, characters emerge and dialogues start. At the back of my mind I have the idea of a 16 panel image which these 9 will form part of, but for now, anything can happen.  I have also managed to squeeze in a couple of walks, a couple of glasses of wine and a couple of bottles of real ale, along with some fine food and fine company. Who could ask for more!!!

I am documenting the process as the work progresses, and intend to make a short film piece on my return to Yorkshire.....
